Men’s Health Week 2012
It’s all about men this week! Yes, Men’s Health Week 2012 is here.
The starkest fact about men and their health is that the average life expectancy for men is five years less than women (77 years compared to 82).
Globally, the biggest killers of men are cardiovascular disease, suicide and car accidents…
This week, the Men’s Health Forum in Ireland is encouraging men to develop their ‘First Instinct’ and actively seek help, advice and support.
By acting quickly and trusting their instincts, they hope to encourage men to look for help in times of difficulty or ill health, rather than ignoring symptoms.
Too many men, old and young, turn to alcohol to cope or attempt to ‘soldier on’ without support – in the worst cases, taking their own life because they can’t deal with problems alone.
We are all surrounded by men in our lives, so take some time this week to find out how they are, try and encourage them (without nagging!) to pay attention to their health.
