Mini Detox…blitz your energy, stress and toxin levels
Let’s face it, the mere mention of the word detox has most people sprinting in the opposite direction, but stick with us, because you are in for a surprise.
We’re not talking a sackcloth and ashes approach to your health with copious green drinks thrown in for good measure.
Instead, we’re going for a more gentle approach – take a couple of days to let go of your bad habits, foods and routines and replace them with nourishing activities instead.
DETOX… your energy levels
Sluggish? Feeling Blue? Sleepy by mid-afternoon? Shake up your system with this approach:
Sip some purifying tea
Instead of reaching for the tea and coffee first thing, start the day with some herbal tea or a mug of boiling water and fresh lemon.
We like the Pukka Cleanse, an organic nettle, fennel & peppermint tea which can help to purify your skin.
Scrub your skin
Massaging your body from head to toe with a body scrub is a better and more soothing option than downing an energy drink. Opt for a salt-based scrub, which can help draw out toxins and leave you feeling refreshed.
We like the Mil All Natural Intensive Dead Sea Salts Body Scrub, which costs €14 for 225g. You can order it from Natural Ireland
Slather on some oil
Oils are more concentrated than body butters and balms, so use them to boost your energy levels quickly.
We like the Garnier Body Ultimate Regenerating Oil, €9.99 which sinks in straight away. It contains four anti-ageing oils, including jojoba and pomegranate to make skin visibly firmer and smoother.
DETOX…your stress levels
If you are overwhelmed by day-to-day tasks, then chances are you are experiencing stress overload.
One way to spot stress is some of these symptoms: bad skin, unexplained aches and pains, tense shoulders and mood swings – if you’re nodding to any of these, try this daily routine to soothe yourself.
Soak away your stress
Taking a bath is comforting, particularly by candlelight. We’ve all ditched the bath for the shower to save time, but take a breather and have a soak to calm yourself down.
We like the Origins Calm To Your Sense Lavender and Vanilla oil for bath & body, 150ml for €31.50.
Do a mini massage
Gently stroking your arms, legs and face with your hands or a soft brush will release massive amounts of tension. If you’re staying in for the night, don’t forget your scalp.
We like the Dermalogica Stress Relief Treatment Oil with calming essential oils of Sandalwood, Lavender, Orange and Clary Sage, €22 for 100ml.
Stick our your tongue
Ease tension in your jaw, neck and shoulders by sticking out your tongue as far as you can. Not in public, obviously, but it’s a fantastic stress reliever!
DETOX…your toxin levels
Suffering from frequent bloating, headaches, fatigue and lacklustre skin? Get your glow back with the following tips:
Glow all over
Vigorously massage your body while steeping in a hot oil and salt bath. If you’re feeling really hardcore, use Epsom Salts too. Massage damp skin and relax in the bath while sweating out impurities.
Put on a mask
Deep-cleanse your pores and soak away city dirt and dead skin with a detoxifying face mask.
We like the Seavite Purifying and Detoxifying Mask which contains nutrient-rich organic seaweed plants specially selected for their purifying properties, €17.50 for 75ml from Seavite.
Three days of looking after yourself should leave you with a new glow and a spring in your step, let us know how you get on!
