Run, Walk, Get Fit for a Cause
What’s your cause? Here at Sláinte, we tend to focus our charitable efforts around, well, health and fitness! We’re guessing you might do the same. So here’s some of our favorite upcoming events in aid of charity.
Aer Arann Half Marathon
8th – 10th April
Get fundraising for sick children and support Temple Street Children’s Hospital. Whether you run, walk, or jog, the Aer Arann Islands Annual Half Marathon, it is a unique and memorable experience for all involved. The event will take place on Inis Mór Island off the coast of Galway in April 2016. You can get full details and info on how to register: INFO
Aware Harbour 2 Harbour Walk, Dublin
Get busy on St. Patrick’s Day to complete Aware’s annual Harbour 2 Habour Walk, a 16 mile route from Howth to Dun Laoghaire or vice versa.
Not only will you reap the benefits of being physically active – which can have a very positive effect on mental health and wellbeing – you will also be participating in a fun and worthwhile event, which last year saw over a 1,000 walkers turning out to participate in the walk to support Aware’s work. There will be fun, food and refreshments along the way. Click to REGISTER. 5km Menlo Walk, Galway
The annual 5 mile Menlo walk in aid of Ability West will take place on Sunday 7th February. The walk will start at 12 noon from Scoil Bhride, Menlo.
Now in its 9th year, the walk has raised in the region of €50,000 for Ability West and is open to everyone.
Ability West provides services and supports to over 530 children and adults with an intellectual disability, in 55 locations throughout Galway City and County. Services include day, residential, respite, rehabilitative training, supported employment and community support. It is only through the continued support and generosity of the public that they can continue to deliver a high quality service well into the future.

The Great Railway Run, Cork
This charity running event takes place on Sunday 17th April. Organised by the Carrigaline & District Lions Club with the support of Carrigaline Road Runners AC, there are 5K, 10K and 25K distances. Get full info on the timings and enter here : ENTER.
The predominantly flat route passes through Blackrock, Mahon, Rochestown, Passage, Monkstown, Raffeen and Shanbally before finally chugging into Carrigaline. This event has been moved from November to April to assist runners who are preparing for Cork City Marathon. The 25K is an ideal event to test pace and fitness before the marathon.
